Kimbap, also romanized as Gimbap, is rice rolled in seaweed with various ingredients inside.
Kimbap is a hugely popular snack or light meal option in Korea. Common ingredients are carrots, pickled radish, spinach, egg, imitation crab & ham. Other types of kimbap include tuna with perilla leaf or donkas.
INGREDIENTS:
3 Tbsp Kimchi,
1/2 Tbsp Sugar,
1/2 Tbsp Red Pepper Powder,
1 Tbsp Red Pepper Paste,
Sesame Oil,
2 Tbsp Chopped Spam,
2 Tbsp Canned Tuna,
1 Serving Cooked Rice,
2 Sheets Seaweed Paper,
2 Slice Sliced Cheese,
2 String Cheese,
1 Egg, Bread Crumbs
DIRECTIONS:
1. Add oil to pan and stir-fry 3 Tbsp of Kimchi. Add 1/2 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 Tbsp red pepper powder, 1 Tbsp red pepper paste and bit of sesame oil. Continue to stir-fry. Add 2 Tbsp of chopped spam and 2 Tbsp of canned tuna. Continue to stir-fry.
2. Add 1 serving of cooked rice and stir-fry all together.
3. Add 1 slice of sliced cheese and 1 ripped string cheese on top of seaweed paper. Put the cup on the middle and add fried rice around the edges of the cup. Shape it into square shape while adding rice around the edges.
4. After shaping the rice, take out the cup and add egg yolk. Tear 1 string cheese and 1 slice of sliced cheese and add it on top. Fold the edges of seaweed paper. Add 1 sheet of seaweed paper.
5. Roll Gimbap over egg whites and bread crumbs.
6. Add a bit of oil to pan and slightly fry Gimbap in low heat.
